Agronomy Notes

MZ 4040DBR has solid seedling vigour. Plants grow to short to moderate height with an ear placed nicely. Plants flower 2 days later vs MZ 4280DBR. Ears are large with 18-20 rows. Kernels are deep with excellent grain quality. Husks zip open and hang showing grain during drydown. Husk cover is adequate to short and ears are held on a longer shank. Plant health is  average. Very good tolerance to ear rots. Plant intactness at harvest is average with some plant tops missing. Stalk strength is very good. Position north and south of zone. Predicted favourable response to population and fungicide. Ideal for delayed harvest. Optimum performance at 32-35 ppa population.
